NNS: Brian Scott Earns Pole at the Chicagoland Speedway

Brian Scott captured the pole for the Jimmy John’s Freaky Fast 300 at the Chicagoland Speedway. Scott posted his fast time with about one minute remaining in the final round with a lap time of 29.767 seconds, 181.409 mph. The run will give the 26-year-old his third pole of the year and the fifth of his NASCAR Nationwide Series career.

Starting in the second position will be Ryan Blaney after turning a lap of 29.803 seconds, 181.190 mph. Blaney was the first driver to make a lap in the final round, which allowed him to have a very clean lap. Chicagoland Speedway will mark his 10th race of the year in the series and looks to score his second win of 2014. Scott earned the pole over Blaney by just 0.036 seconds.

Rolling off from the third spot this afternoon will be Kyle Busch after posting his fast time of 29.817 seconds, 181.105 mph. Busch’s fastest lap came in the closing seconds of qualifying as the team made two runs in the five-minute session. This marks his 18th top-10 start of the year after entering 20 Nationwide Series races. He was behind the pole sitter by 0.014 seconds.

The four cars of John Jackson, Morgan Shepherd, Mike Harmon and Carl Long all did not qualify for the race. Blake Koch, who was out of the race until there was around two-minutes remaining, was able to run quicker than Long to move into 32nd.

Aric Almirola, who is making his first start in the Nationwide Series since March of 2013, will roll off from the 10th spot. Kevin Harvick, who will be carrying Jimmie John’s on the side of his No. 5 Chevrolet, will start in fifth. Nationwide Series points leader, Chase Elliott, will take to the Chicagoland Speedway from fourth. Driver that’s sitting right behind Elliott in points, Regan Smith, starts the 300-mile race in the 11th spot.
