NNS: Chicagoland Speedway Preview

The NASCAR Nationwide Series will take to the 1.5-mile Chicagoland Speedway for the 14th annual Jimmy John’s Freaky Fast 300. When the event on Saturday concludes, the series will have seven races left, which could be interesting on the points side. The weekend marks the second stop for the Nationwide Series there in 2014.

The entrylist for the race features a total of 43 drivers as this means that three will be going home following qualifying. Some of the notables you’ll see on-track this weekend, include: Kevin Harvick, Denny Hamlin, Ryan Blaney, Cody Ware, Daniel Suarez, Paul Menard, Will Kimmel, Brennan Newberry, Ross Chastain, Kevin Swindell and Aric Almirola.

Aric Almirola announced early last week that he’ll race in two NASCAR Nationwide Series events this season with Biagi-Denbeste. This weekend will mark his first start in the series since the Phoenix International Raceway in March of last year. Richard Petty Motorsports and Almirola made this move because they think that it will help them for Sunday. The next race for him with this team will be at Dover.

Daniel Suarez will be back to make his second career NASCAR Nationwide Series start as he will pilot the No. 29 ARRIS Toyota for RAB Racing. He also announced during the week that he will race for Venturini Motorsports in the ARCA Racing Series race next week at the Kentucky Speedway. He also announced that he will compete in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series event at the Talladega Superspeedway in October.

Chase Elliott has been extending his points lead on his teammate, Regan Smith, over the past few weeks. Elliott goes into the Jimmy John’s Freaky Fast 300 with a points lead of 19. Back at this 1.5-mile oval in July, Elliott started the race from third and went on to capture his third win of the year after leading 48 laps. He hasn’t won a race since then, but has brought home a top-10 finish in six of the last seven races since.

Fans can watch the race live on ESPN2 on Saturday, September 13 at 3:30 p.m. Et. The Motor Racing Network will provide the live radio coverage of the event. Kyle Busch goes into the weekend as the defending race winner.
