NNS: Atlanta Motor Speedway Preview

The NASCAR Nationwide Series will head to the Atlanta Motor Speedway on Saturday for the 23rd annual Great Clips 300. Atlanta will mark stop 24 of the 33 scheduled events here in 2014. This is the one and only stop at the 1.5-mile oval during the year.

The entry list features a total of 40 drivers so nobody will be going home following qualifying tomorrow. Some of the drivers you’ll see race Saturday include: Kevin Harvick, Matt Kenseth, Joey Logano, Carlos Contreras, John Wes Townley, Carl Long, Chris Cockrum, Kevin Swindell and David Ragan.

Chase Elliott heads into his home track as the points leader by 13 over teammate, Regan Smith. Elliott will be making his first start at the Atlanta Motor Speedway and will certainly be one of the fan favorites to score the win. At the Texas Motor Speedway in April, which is a track much like Atlanta, Elliott scored his first career NNS victory. Saturday will certainly be interesting to see how he does.

Team Penske’s No. 22 and Joe Gibbs Racing’s No. 54 continues to battle for the top spot in the owner points standings. The two teams go into the event Saturday separated by only 24 points. The two finished in the first two spots last weekend at the Bristol Motor Speedway and will certainly be fighting for that top spot once again this weekend.

With Atlanta being his hometrack, David Ragan hopes to grab a decent finish on Saturday. It will mark his fifth start of the season and looks to bring home his second top-five finish at the 1.5-mile oval. He has an average finish of 14.0 this season. Ragan is certainly one of the favorite underdogs to possibly capture the victory.

You can catch the NASCAR Nationwide Series race at 7:30 p.m. ET. live on ESPN2. The Performance Racing Network will carry the live radio broadcast of the event. Kevin Harvick goes into this event as the defending race winner.
