Kwasniewski Comes Home 14th at the Brickyard

Making his first-career NASCAR Nationwide Series (NNS) start at Indianapolis Motor Speedway on Saturday afternoon, Dylan Kwasniewski and his No. 31 Fraternal Order of Eagles (FOE) team looked to learn their way around the world famous “Brickyard” and continue to gain momentum during the 100-lap race. Kwasniewski started the weekend by earning the 15th starting position during NASCAR’s knockout qualifying, running the same exact lap time as his Turner Scott Motorsports (TSM) teammate Kyle Larson. After battling a loose FOE Chevrolet and overcoming debris on the grille during the middle portion of the race, Kwasniewski and his TSM team came home with a solid 14th place finish.


 

Following the drop of the green flag, Kwasniewski settled into the 16th position and reported to his TSM team that his FOE Chevy was a tick free all around, but not far off from having a very good race car.  Kwasniewski continued to hold on to his position until the first caution of the day came out on lap 17 for debris. During the caution, crew chief Shannon Rursch called Kwasniewski down pit road for four tires, Sunoco Racing fuel and a track-bar adjustment to help tighten up the FOE Chevy. After a lightning-quick pit stop by the TSM crew, Kwasniewski gained two spots on pit road and restarted 14th on lap 21. With teams on different fuel strategies, the Las Vegas native worked his way up to 11th on lap 31 before reporting to his team on lap 40 that he had debris on his grille and was staring to overheat. Not taking any chances, Rursch called Kwasniewski down pit road to clean the grille and add fresh tires and fuel. Returning to the track in the 29th position, one lap down, Kwasniewski continued to battle, and with teams making green-flag fuel stops, he would gain his lap back and find himself in the 16th position when the second caution of the day came out on lap 56. Rursch again called Kwasniewski down pit road for four tires, fuel and a final track-bar adjustment. After another quick pit stop, Kwasniewski restarted 15th on lap 64. Playing the fuel strategy game, Rursch brought Kwasniewski down pit road on lap 68 for a splash of fuel and the last pit stop of the day. Kwasniewski would survive one more caution and a long green flag run to end the race, ultimately bringing the FOE Chevy home in the 14th position

Indy is such a unique place with a ton history and I really enjoyed making my first start at the Brickyard. Our car was fast all weekend, and the guys made great pit stops, which really helped us gain track position. We’ll continue to work hard and I’m looking forward to getting back in the 42 car next weekend in Iowa while Larson fulfills his Cup duties in Pocono.”
