Buescher Claims Fifth Top Ten Finish of the Season at Michigan

Chris Buescher headed to Michigan for his second NASCAR Nationwide Series start at the two-mile track. After qualifying in the 10th-position, the Roush Fenway Racing driver charged up through field, reaching as high as third and running inside the top-five for much of the day, displaying one of his strongest performances of the season thus far. After a slight over-adjustment on the last pit stop of the day, the No.60 Roush Performance Parts Mustang was shuffled back but Buescher fought hard to end the day in the 10th-spot.

“That was a pretty good day for our Roush Performance Parts Ford Mustang,” said Buescher. “We started off really good and got better as we went and got it freed up. I think I might have gotten us a bit too far there. We got pretty free in traffic and lost a couple spots. It is a shame we didn’t have another 20 laps because it was starting to come to us. Overall it was a really good day and I am glad to be here and glad to bring it home in one piece.”

The rookie of the year contender made it successfully through all three rounds of knockout qualifying to begin the Ollie’s Bargain Outlet 250 in 10th. An early caution came out on lap 8 and the Prosper, Texas native had a strong restart working his way up to third by lap 10 of the 125-mile race.

Buescher remained in contention for the lead after crew chief Scott Graves opted for two tires on the second stop of the day and fuel only on the final pit. The No.60 Roush Performance Parts Mustang was slightly tight for most of the day and the team worked to correct this, deciding on a final track bar adjustment during the fuel only stop on lap 80.

The track-bar adjustment loosened up Buescher’s Mustang slightly too much, shuffling him back to 12th after the final restart. The machine came around with about five laps remaining, and Buescher pushed forward to capture his fifth top-ten finish of the season. 

Buescher will return to the track at Road America on Saturday, June 21st sitting eighth in points.  Coverage of the Gardner Denver 200 begins at 2:45 pm on ABC.
