The fast Texas Motor Speedway is always a race circled on the schedule for Jamie Dick and the No.55 Viva Auto Group Chevrolet team. Both Dick and longtime sponsor Viva Auto Group hail from the great state of Texas. This only adds to the pressure to perform well. Once the green flag dropped for the O’Reilly Auto Parts 300, Dick fell back to the 31st position with a car that was too loose. As the race developed, the car started to gain more and more grip. After the first round of pit stops on lap 42, Dick restarted the race in the 25th position. The car was still loose, but balance was improved. After multiple adjustments the car, lap times were improving as the race was progressing. Fresh tires and another round of adjustments on lap 120 had Jamie Dick running speeds comparable to the leaders. Gaining four positions in 25 laps, and breaking the top 20, confidence was at its highest. But contact with the 99 car on lap 168 sent Dick across the track, and collecting another car. This ended the night early for the team, as heavy damage would force a DNF.
“We just started out way too loose tonight,” said Jamie Dick. “But we got the Viva Auto Group Chevrolet way better, thanks to the calls on pit road, and at the end we were passing people. It was looking like we were going to have a pretty decent finish. The 99 decided not to give us a break when we needed one, and the 60 had nowhere to go which ended both our nights. Unfortunately we ended up with a wrecked racecar, but we will put it back together and go on to the next race.”
