Miguel Paludo NCWTS Preview: Charlotte Motor Speedway
Written by Steven B. WilsonFor The Kids...This weekend at Charlotte Motor Speedway, the No. 32 gets a bit more colorful with Carolinas Healthcare System's Levine Children's Hospital on board as primary sponsor. Levine Children's Hospital's mission is to ensure excellent children's healthcare by building partnerships between caregivers and families. Just five years after opening, the hospital has grown to include more than 30 pediatric specialties and has twice received the national distinction by U.S. News & World Report as one of "America's Best Children's Hospitals."
Staffed by some of the most respected medical professionals in the world, Carolinas HealthCare System's Levine Children's Hospital leads the nation in offering a comprehensive range of specialized pediatric services, including kidney, liver and heart transplants; cardiac and cancer care; neurosurgery; rehabilitation services and the highest designated level of neonatal intensive care. In 2012, Levine Children's Hospital received national recognition from U.S. News & World Report as one of "America's Best Children's Hospitals" in six different categories, the third year in which at least one specialty has been recognized by U.S. News & World Report.
Going Home...The NASCAR Camping World Truck Series event at Charlotte Motor Speedway is a "home game" for Paludo, who recently purchased a home in the Charlotte suburb of Mooresville. The Brazilian has competed in two previous events at CMS, earning an average start of 12th and a best finish of 14th.
This Week's Silverado...Paludo and the No. 32 Levine Children's Hospital team will once again utilize chassis TSM-216 this weekend at Charlotte Motor Speedway. TSM-216 was a strong contender in the last two NCWTS races at Rockingham Speedway and Kansas Speedway, earning a best finish of 10th at Rockingham.
Watch and Listen...The North Carolina Education Lottery 200 can be seen live on Friday, May 17 on SPEED. Pre-race coverage will begin at 7:30 p.m. EDT, and the event can also be heard live on MRN Radio, as well as SiriusXM Radio, channel 90.
Previous Race Recap... Paludo's potentially race-winning run ended in the wall at Kansas Speedway. After starting on the front row and leading his first laps of the 2013 season, the No. 32 Duroline Brakes and Components Chevrolet was one of the trucks to beat before getting caught up in an incident on lap 35, which ended Paludo's race in the garage and relegated him to a 31st-place finish in the SFP 250.
Miguel Paludo on driving at Charlotte Motor Speedway
"I'm really proud to be running Levine Children's Hospital on our No. 32 Chevrolet this weekend at Charlotte Motor Speedway. As a father, there is nothing more important than your child being healthy and happy, and it's great that we have one of the best pediatric hospitals in the country right nearby. Some of the other Turner Scott Motorsports drivers and I are going to be doing a visit there next week, and I can't wait to see the facility and meet the kids."
"I have been looking forward to getting to the track in Charlotte since we left Kansas Speedway; I feel like that could have been a win and it got away from us. We were probably the best we've been all season, so I feel really confident going into a similar track in the same truck we brought to the last two races. I could not be prouder of my team and the direction we're going this year. I'm ready to get to Charlotte and set it on fire."

James Buescher NCWTS Preview: Charlotte Motor Speedway
Written by Steven B. WilsonKansas Recap...James Buescher came into the SFP 250 at Kansas Speedway as the defending race winner and, for a while, it looked like Buescher was going to repeat as race winner. After grabbing his first pole since 2011, Buescher quickly shot off to the lead and collected valuable championship bonus points in the process. With a late-race pit stop, Buescher and the Rheem team elected to take four tires, which put him 20th in the 36-truck field. After some daring restart moves, Buescher worked his way back up to inside the top three. While dealing with lapped traffic and some close competition, Buescher fell back outside the top five to sixth, where he eventually finished. This was Buescher's first top ten of the 2013 season.
Under the Lights...After the season's second extended break in the schedule, the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series returns to action this weekend at Charlotte Motor Speedway (CMS). The last time the No. 31 Turner Scott Motorsports (TSM) team competed at CMS, Buescher went on to lead 10 laps and was running inside the top five before getting collected by a spinning lapped truck. The Turner Scott Motorsports team is very confident heading into CMS after a strong run at Kansas Speedway four weeks ago.
Gotta Have a Rheem...The No. 31 TSM entry will once again run the Rheem colors this weekend at CMS. Buescher and TSM hope to build off the last race's momentum and capture the team's first victory of the season. Rheem Manufacturing Company (www.rheem.com) is privately held with headquarters in Atlanta. In its 87th year of operation, the company manufactures a full line of high-quality residential and commercial heating and cooling systems; tank, tankless, solar, and heat pump water heaters; swimming pool heaters and commercial boilers throughout North America and world markets. The company's premium brands, including Raypak, Ruud and Rheem, have been recognized with countless industry and consumer awards for reliability, innovative design and high quality. Rheem, now in its seventh consecutive year as a NASCAR sponsor, is the official heating, cooling and water heating supplier to Turner Scott Motorsports and Richard Childress Racing. Rheem also sponsors RCR's No. 29 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series car driven by Kevin Harvick and the No. 33 NASCAR Nationwide Series car driven by Paul Menard.
Return of Honey Badger...For the second time this season, TSM will bring Chassis TSM-214, aka "Honey Badger," to the track. During its first appearance at Rockingham Speedway, Buescher led 17 laps and was running close to the top five before being collected by a lapped truck. During 2012, "Honey Badger" recorded 4 wins, all on 1.5-mile tracks.
Watch and Listen...The North Carolina Education Lottery 200 can be seen live on Friday, May 17th on SPEED. Race coverage will begin at 7:30 p.m. EDT. The event can also be heard live on MRN Radio as well as SiriusXM Satellite Radio, channel 90.
James Buescher on returning to Charlotte Motor Speedway
"I'm really looking forward to getting back on track this weekend in Charlotte. We had a great run in Kansas, and I hope we can build off that and use our past success on mile-and-a-half tracks to our advantage and put our Rheem Chevrolet Silverado in victory lane. It would definitely mean a lot to our team, as we'll be able to compete in front of many family and friends that will be at the track."

This also marked Quiroga's best finish of the season, gaining four positions in the driver point standings currently 18th.
Germán Quiroga on Charlotte Motor Speedway:
Talk about what you learned as a driver during the test at Texas Motor Speedway?
"Testing at Texas was a great experience. Dan (Stillman, crew chief) made a lot of changes and was sure to explain each one to me so I can better understand our Toyota Tundra should we need adjustments during a race - we know what works better for us. Also, I felt more relaxed driving and with more confidence. I'm very happy to have this opportunity with NET10 Wireless and to see how Red Horse Racing is working hard on improvement and having success in the future. We'll start this weekend in Charlotte; we are going to be fast.
What is most exciting to you about racing at a track for the first time?
"Racing in Charlotte is going to be a great experience, not only because it is going to be my first time here but because I feel it is now like my home track. Each time you feel at home you try to do the best that you can, also I will have the support of new friends that I have met here so having them at the track is going to be special."

REARVIEW MIRROR - KANSAS: Timothy Peters and the No.17 Parts Plus Toyota Tundra started the race in the 18th spot and quickly moved up through the field during the opening laps of the SFP 200. Over the course of the race, Peters battled tight-handling conditions but was able to secure a top-10 finish with Butch Hylton and his team freeing up the Tundra during the 167-lap event. The Parts Plus pit crew was on their game and earned spots on pit road where and when it counted. The 10th-place finish moved Peters up three spots in the driver point standings where he now sits 13th.
Timothy Peters on Charlotte Motor Speedway:
What did you learn about 1.5-mile tracks during your test at Texas Motor Speedway?
"I'm really encouraged about what we found chassis wise while we were at Texas. We found a really great balance that was comfortable to my driving style. It was great to get a jump start on how to keep up with the track changes. Texas is a very temperature sensitive track and Charlotte is the same. Having practice during the day and racing at night you have to be prepared to make the right adjustments at the right time.
Do you have a different mindset when it comes to approaching a 1.5-mile track?
"Not really. I'm a racer, I want to win. I go into every race with that mindset. However, you do have to pay attention a little more in those kinds of races. It's all about keeping up with the track changes. I have to stay on top of that to communicate that back to Butch (Hylton, crew chief) so he can make the changes correctly."

John Wes Townley on Charlotte Motor Speedway:
How was the test at Texas Motor Speedway? What can you take onto Charlotte?
"There are a lot of changes we made as far as how our Toyota Tundras will react to certain changes. We wanted to find what I was comfortable with and continue to better our team communication. I think the more we learn about each other, what we like and what we don't like, I think we will grow as a team. When we get to Charlotte - now we have a notebook to see what change worked best for us.
What are you most looking forward to about this weekend?

Matt and Ashley Crafton celebrate first daughter's birth
Written by Steven B. WilsonNASCAR Camping World Truck Series' championship leader Matt Crafton has some serious work to do between now and May 16, the opening day of practice for the next series race, at Charlotte Motor Speedway.
Crafton and his wife, Ashley, need to ease their newborn daugher, Elladee Ann, off her first favorite habit -- catching a few winks on her father's chest.
"She's already so spoiled," Crafton said of his daughter's birth 10 days ago, on April 26. "The only place she really likes to sleep is on my chest, so we're trying to wean her off that."
The birth of the Craftons' first child had them overflowing with anticipation. But for the driver who assumed the Truck Series' points lead less than two weeks ago after a combination of Crafton's win in the series' last race, at Kansas Speedway and a penalty to his ThorSport Racing teammate Johnny Sauter that reversed their first and second positions in the standings, the reality of having a child is mind-boggling.
"Everybody tells you how it feels, how you're going to feel and how much you'll love having a child of your own," Crafton said. "But it's way, way more than I ever, ever thought it could possibly be. It's indescribable, really..."
Crafton laughed when he described his current state of mind as "good, though maybe a little sleep-deprived -- but it's all good." He said he and Ashley have the exchanges between feeding (her) and changing (him) down to a smooth routine.
And he laughed again when he was asked how he thought things would level-off when the Truck Series gets back to racing. Including the Charlotte event on May 17 the series has four races in the space of seven weeks.
"I wish I could tell you when (the routine) might level off," Crafton said. "I gotta go with business as usual as much as I can, and I honestly can't tell you how much we're enjoying this."
Back at the ThorSport Racing shops in Sandusky, Crafton's crew chief "Junior" Joiner grinned even wider than normal, recently, when he thought about the circumstances of Elladee's birth. The Craftons' child's birth came six days after Crafton's win in Kansas -- which was shades of Sauter's victory two years ago at Martinsville, which preceded the birth of he and wife Cortney's daugher, Paige, by just days.
At Kansas, an emotional Joiner had told of how important the number "26" was in his family's racing history, as Crafton's win came in Joiner's 26th race as his crew chief. Elladee's birth on April 26th was icing on the cake for Joiner.
"Is that cool or what?" Joiner said last week, shaking his head and smiling -- coincidentally even as his wife walked around the corner of the finish fabrication area carrying their infant son. "I told you that was a magic number. When Matt called and told me it was 'go time,' I told him it was the 26th -- what else did he expect?
"The only thing that would've been cooler would have been if my son was born on December 26th, but that's all right. Grandpa's looking out for us this year, (26) was his number, it was the day I was born and my dad's number when he drove, so it was all pretty neat."
And the whipped cream on that cake for Joiner was Crafton's picture with Elladee, which was widely circulated among his teammates shortly after the child's birth.
"I'm proud of Matt and Ashley, and I know they'll raise her to be a good little girl," Joiner said. "But I never thought I'd see the day that Matt could look that angelic... Never -- but I can see he's already in trouble -- days old and she's already got him worked."

Empire Racing Wishing Team Manager a Speedy Recovery
Written by Steven B. WilsonSean Corr and Empire Racing will start today’s International Motorsports Hall of Fame 250 from 13th, and on the #82 Warriors In The Workplace Ford Fusion, they carry a message for Team Manager, John Bellesfield. “We are all wishing JB a speedy recovery and are looking forward to having him back at the track with us” said team owner, John Corr.
“JB is such a huge part of our team, we are really missing him here at Talladega. We just wanted to do something that would let him know he was in our thoughts here at the track” explained Corr, pointing out the message “Get well soon J.B.!” that is now on the rear bumper of the #82 Ford Fusion.
Bellesfield underwent emergency back surgery two weeks ago and is currently undergoing rehabilitation. While down, but not out, Bellesfield has been keeping in touch with the team through phone calls, emails and texts leading up to the race. The Empire hauler has been frequented by members of the ARCA Racing Series sending well wishes to John.
Talladega marks Empire Racing’s first race with Jamie Jones as crew chief and a return to the track with the Daytona superspeedway car that Sean Corr earned an ARCA career high 5th place finish in this February. “Really looking forward to today’s race. At these superspeedways races it is important to keep your nose clean, so that’s what we are going to try to do today. We worked really well with Frank Kimmel during the Daytona race and plan on doing the same today in the draft” said Corr as he prepares for today’s 5pm (ET) race, to be televised live on SPEED.

Just because there’s a brief break in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series (NCWTS) schedule, it doesn’t mean that driver Bryan Silas has been soaking it up in the sun.
In fact, the Stuart, Florida native has barely had time to relax.
This past Monday and Tuesday, the full-time NASCAR Camping World Truck Series driver participated in a private test at Virginia International Raceway (VIR) with the BMW Performance Driving School.
Silas utilized the advanced two-day road racing course as early preparation for the upcoming NCWTS road-course event this fall from Canadian Tire Motorsports Park.
“Testing at VIR was a lot of fun,” explained Silas. “Not only did I learn a lot about road racing, I also got to experience for myself what to expect and how to handle a car with elevation changes and extremely tight corners. I’ll be doing some more testing before the actual truck race arrives, but this is a great first step to prepare me for Canadian Tire Motorsports Park.”
The testing though doesn’t stop there.
This weekend, Silas will head to New York to get down and dirty to ready himself for the upcoming Inaugural Mudsummer Classic set for July 24 from Eldora (Oh.) Speedway.
The 25-year old will be a guest of four-time dirt champion Bryan Holland. Silas will experience the races hands-on by working with the crew, learning the racing format of old fashioned dirt car racing before taking to Canandaigua Speedway himself on Sunday for a private test session.
Despite previous dirt-track experience in the ARCA Racing Series presented by Menards, visiting both Blackrock Speedway and Canandaigua Speedway this weekend will give the Floridian a better perspective on what to expect at Eldora in two months.
“I loved competing on the dirt in ARCA, but NASCAR is trying to make their inaugural truck race as close to the “real thing” as possible, so I have to get myself ready for what lies ahead,” sounded Silas. “I am very appreciative to Bryan (Holland), his team and fellow friends who are really eager to show me the ropes this weekend in New York. I know I still have a lot to learn, but I’m eager to learn. I can’t wait to get there and get down to business.”
