Townley Set to Defend Race Win in Las Vegas

John Wes Townley heads to Las Vegas Motor Speedway this week with his sights set on successfully defending his victory in last fall’s NASCAR Camping World Truck Series event at the 1.5-mile oval in the desert.

Townley’s No. 05 Jive Communications/Zaxby’s Chevrolet has shown plenty of speed this season on NASCAR’s intermediate tracks, evidenced by pole positions at Kansas Speedway and Michigan International Speedway and a second-place start at Chicagoland Speedway a week ago.

His next goal is to capitalize on that speed over the long haul and put himself in position to be the first driver to cross the finish line.

“The Truck race at Chicago last week reminded me of our win at Las Vegas last year,” Townley said. “We had plenty of speed throughout the race and put ourselves in contention to race for the win at the end.

“Our Athenian Motorsports team has been working overtime going over our Vegas truck, so I know we’ll have something for the field when we unload our Chevrolet.”

Townley’s biggest victories have come on two of racing’s grandest stages.

“I’ve won at Daytona twice in ARCA and that was huge,” Townley said. “But winning in the Truck Series at Las Vegas last year was just as important to me.

“There’s just something special about winning in Vegas with all the glitz and glamour there and the huge crowds they draw. I can’t wait to get on the track on Saturday and give our #JiveRacing Chevrolet a great run.

“This is a home race for Jive Communications, which is based in Salt Lake City. They’ll have a lot of folks at the track on Saturday. I’d like nothing more than to take them to victory lane.”
