Top-Five for Timothy Peters in First Chase Race

Timothy Peters earned a top-five finish in the first race of the inaugural Chase for the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series Championship. In two practice sessions on Friday at New Hampshire Motor Speedway, Peters posted the 13th-fastest lap in the first and seventh-fastest lap in the final practice. During three rounds of knockout, group qualifying, Peters transferred to the final round to earn a front row starting spot for the UNOH 175. Under sunny autumn skies, Peters battled a tight handling condition in traffic on his No. 17 Red Horse Racing Tundra. On his first pit stop on lap 53, the No. 17 team gave him four fresh Goodyear tires and a tank full of Sunoco fuel, and Peters would restart in the ninth position. Peters was able to remain in the top-10 and soon would climb back into the top five following a two-tire stop under caution on lap 105. Even though crew chief Shane Huffman continued to make adjustments, Peters battled a tight condition throughout the afternoon, but the veteran driver was able to capitalize on an outside lane restart position in several late race caution periods to gain track position and finish fifth.

Timothy Peters Quote:

“I’m happy with the finish that we brought home. I wish we could have won the race starting on the front row, but Shane (Huffman, crew chief) and the guys fought for me all day long getting the balance better than we started there towards the end. We still needed our Tundra to turn just a little bit better, but all in all we were able to get restarts and that’s where all the track position came from. With anybody throughout the day, it was very hard to pass, so we had two good restarts and were able to put ourselves in a top-five position and come away with a good points day.”
