NCWTS: Kyle Larson Wins Aspen Dental Eldora Dirt Derby 150 at Eldora Speedway

Kyle Larson captured the win at Eldora Speedway in the fourth annual Aspen Dental Eldora Dirt Derby 150. Larson, driving the No. 24 DC Solar Chevrolet with GMS Racing, led the field for 48 laps of the evening. The young driver captured his second Camping World Truck Series win with his last coming in 2012 at Rockingham Speedway.

“It means a lot especially losing the way I did two years ago.” Said Larson when asked how much the win meant to him in a truck on FOX Sports 1 in victory lane. “I knew with running a blue No. 24 I had to run hard here at Eldora so I had to put on a show. We got a flat tire there early. I knew we would get the lucky dog free pass and I didn’t know if I would get back to the top three as quick as I did.”

Larson had a roller coaster kind of evening as he blew a tire on lap 53. Caution came out and Larson was held a lap for intentionally causing the yellow. He got the free pass and drove back towards the front from there. Larson later took the lead away from Bobby Pierce after Pierce’s truck became stuck in fourth gear. Pierce, leading the most laps of any driver with 102, finished 25th after losing a tire on lap 126.

Christopher Bell, who won at Eldora Speedway last season, brought home the second-place spot in his No. 4 JBL Toyota with Kyle Busch Motorsports. Bell started the night in 10th and stayed inside the top 10 all night long. The 21-year old now has seven top five and 10 top 10 finishes through 18 career Camping World Truck Series starts.

Rounding out the top three is Rico Abreu in the No. 98 ThorSport Racing Toyota. Abreu had an up and down night as they would shuffle all around the leaderboard. Fortunate for Abreu, things started working for the team and would slowly make gains on the leaderboard. The dirt racing ace will take home his first career top-five finish in the truck series. Abreu’s best finish previously came at Texas Motor Speedway last month.

Jake Griffin had a career high on Wednesday at Eldora Speedway after bringing home his first career top five finish in the Camping World Truck Series. The fourth place finish shatters his previous best of 21st at Iowa Speedway back in June. Griffin has only five starts in the series.

Austin Wayne Self also had a career night after taking his No. 22 AM Technical Solutions Toyota to a ninth-place finish. Self’s previous best finish came at Texas Motor Speedway last month with a 13th-place run.

The series will head to Pocono Raceway next weekend for the Pocono Mountains 150. Race coverage will begin at 1:00 p.m. ET. on FOX Sports 1. Radio coverage will be provided by the Motor Racing Network and Sirius XM Channel 90.
