Tyler Reddick Kansas Speedway Recap 2016

There was good news and bad news for Tyler Reddick (@TylerReddick) in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series (NCWTS) race Friday night at Kansas Speedway.

The good news: the driver of the Cooper Standard Ford F-150 led four times for 56 laps and otherwise ran with the leaders throughout race.  The not so good news: he didn’t get the finish he deserved.

Reddick started third and flexed the muscle in his No. 29 Ford F-150 from the moment the initial green flag waved, stacking traffic three-wide in Turn 1 to grab the lead.  He held the top spot through the first caution on lap 3 and until the Caution Clock expired on lap 45.  Excellent pit work kept Reddick in the lead when the race went back green on lap 49, and he held the lead for the next 10 laps.

But from that point, the complexion of the race changed for Reddick and the Cooper Standard team.  Cautions on lap 50 and 60 forced crew chief Doug Randolph to pit for fuel in an effort to make it to the end of an anticipated Caution Clock cycle and Reddick restarted 13twhen the race went green on lap 64.

Three more yellow flags (laps 66, 73 and 79) allowed Reddick to cycle his way through traffic and back to sixth-place when the race went green on lap 83.  He was up to third by lap 84, but was starting to fight a loose-handling truck, a condition that gradually grew worse as the run wore on.  Reddick hung tough behind the wheel when the Caution Clock once again expired on lap 122 bringing out the eighth caution of the race.

Reddick pitted on lap 125 for four tires and a major adjustment and restarted seventh when the race went green on lap 129.  He picked up two positions on the initial start to climb inside the top five and grabbed fourth on lap 137.  Reddick then set his sights on tracking down Clint Bowyer for third, and caught his rival on lap 150.  Two laps later he slipped sideways in hot pursuit of his rival off Turn 4 and fell to sixth position.

As the event roared to conclusion, Reddick and Bowyer once again squared off for position and this time Reddick came out on the short end of the exchange, spinning off Turn 2 two laps from the scheduled conclusion of the race and pushing the event into a NASCAR Overtime finish.  Reddick recovered from the spin and claimed 13th position in the final rundown.
