Gallagher Finishes Top-10 in NASCAR Camping World Truck Series Driver Championship Points Following Homestead

Spencer Gallagher’s first full-time NASCAR Camping World Truck Series (NCWTS) season concluded with a top-10 finish in the driver championship standings following a track-best finish at Homestead-Miami Speedway. The driver of the No. 23 Allegiant Travel Chevrolet, who was celebrating his 26th birthday, capped off his rookie season with an 11th-place finish in South Florida.

Gallagher exhibited his prowess during the only practice session of the weekend, posting the third-quickest lap and followed it up with an eighth-place qualifying effort. From the outset of the 200-mile finale Gallagher immediately advanced into the top five with a brave, three-wide move on the top side of the 1.5-mile oval on the opening lap. While Gallagher boasted short-run speed, he struggled with a tight condition in the center of the corners through the race’s first fuel run, until he pitted from 10th position on lap 46.

Crew chief Jeff Stankiewicz called Gallagher back to pit road under a lap 61 caution for wedge and air pressure adjustments to account for a loose condition on corner exit. As a result, Gallagher ran inside the top seven until a lap 84 caution. Gallagher pitted from the fifth position and restarted in 12th with 46 laps to go. After a jumbled restart on lap 88, Gallagher advanced from 16th to earn an 11th-place finish, his best finish at Homestead-Miami Speedway.

Gallagher finished the season 10th in NCWTS driver championship points standings and closed out the season with three-consecutive top-12 finishes. In total, Gallagher’s rookie season ended with one top-five, six top-10, and 14 top-15 finishes.

SPENCER GALLAGHER QUOTE:

“This was a real year of growth for our Allegiant Travel team. Everyone at GMS Racing put such good stuff together every week. This was my first full-time season in a truck. It was our first full-time season as a team running two trucks. I love how far we’ve come (with our program). It’s been pretty impressive, and I can’t wait to see what we can do in 2016.”
