Gallagher Equals His Best Finish at Texas Motor Speedway

Spencer Gallagher earned a career-best second-place starting position for Friday’s WinStar World Casino 350 at Texas Motor Speedway (TMS), and parlayed that effort into his 12th top-15 finish of the season, tying his track-best finish.

The driver of the No. 23 Allegiant Travel Chevrolet began the weekend in impressive fashion by posting the third and fourth-quickest laps in the two practice sessions on Thursday afternoon. From the outset of his third-career TMS start, Gallagher asserted himself inside the top five until the first pit stop of the night, under green, on lap 46. Gallagher came to the attention of his Allegiant Travel team while running fifth for complete service of four tires, fuel, and an air-pressure adjustment to alleviate a tight condition in the center, and loose off.

The lone caution of the evening slowed the field on lap 55, which made for a NASCAR Camping World Truck (NCWTS) Series race record at TMS. On the event’s lone restart, Gallagher was scored seventh and held serve inside the top 10 through the halfway point. After battling a tight condition in the center, the Las Vegas native made his second, and final, pit stop of the night on lap 96. An elongated four-tire pit stop to make a spring rubber adjustment under green-flag conditions resulted in Gallagher rejoining the fray in the 15th position.

Through the final 51 laps, Gallagher utilized the extreme outside lane to maneuver into the 12th position at the checkered flag. The finish equaled his track-best finish at TMS, a mark he previously set in June. Gallagher currently holds the 10th position in the NCWTS driver championship standings with two races remaining.

SPENCER GALLAGHER QUOTE:

“The weekend started off great with two strong practice sessions and continued into qualifying by sitting on the front row. We were too tight throughout the entire race with our Allegiant Travel Chevrolet and never had the cautions to reset the field and make up track position on pit road tonight. On that last run we were able to make up some ground running up top, picked up a few positions and managed to bring home a decent finish. I’m proud of our GMS Racing team for unloading such fast Chevrolets, and we’ll head to Phoenix (International Raceway) next week to try and finish out the season with some momentum.”
