Jones Perseveres at Las Vegas for a Top-Five Finish

Brandon Jones, driver of the No. 33 Refrigeration Supplies Distribution (RSD) Chevrolet Silverado, displayed patience en route to his third top-five finish of the 2015 season in his debut at Las Vegas Motor Speedway. Jones’ finish in the Rhino Linings 350 NASCAR Camping World Truck Series (NCWTS) race is also his career-best 1.5-mile finish.

Jones started from the third position after a strong showing in both NCWTS final practice and qualifying. Throughout the opening 15 laps of the race, Jones fought a loose RSD Chevrolet while navigating traffic, and also noted being tight on exit. Jones relinquished the third position to visit pit road under caution on lap 21 to receive two tires, fuel and both an air pressure and track bar adjustment. The No. 33 RSD Chevrolet returned to the track in the fifth position, as the leaders performed fuel-only stops. When the race restarted, Jones immediately began battling an extremely loose handling condition. Crew chief Shane Huffman brought Jones to pit road for his final stop of the night on lap 93, while servicing the truck with four tires, fuel and a track bar adjustment under green flag conditions. As the field cycled through pit stops, Jones settled into the top 10 and ran just outside the top five until the final laps of the race. Jones ultimately finished in the fifth position, recording his third top-five finish of 2015. The No. 33 is now eighth in the NCWTS owner championship point standings.

Jones’ next start for GMS Racing will be October 24 at Talladega Superspeedway.

BRANDON JONES QUOTE:

“We had a really fast RSD Chevrolet today. I felt like we were chasing the track throughout the entire race. We went from being tight to really loose and never quite got a hold of the right balance. Shane (Huffman, crew chief) made some really great calls to get us the track position we needed to be running up front at the end. I’m glad we were able to pick up another top-five finish for GMS Racing and the No. 33 team.“
