Kvapil Continues To Improve at Kentucky

Travis Kvapil, driver of the No. 1 Burnie Grill Chevrolet in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series (NCWTS), races to another top-15 finish tying MAKE’s best finish of 14th.

The No. 1 Burnie Grill Chevrolet did not receive any on track practice or qualifying time due to the rain earlier in the day. In a rare move by NASCAR, the NCWTS lined up by points never taking a single lap of practice. Kvapil started the UNOH 225 150-lap event from the 23rd position. The beginning of the race Travis Kvapil immediately reported that his No. 1 Chevrolet was not responding the way it should it be in the front end. The team turned their focus on to the splitters position and noticed that it was not low enough to the track surface under race conditions. The MAKE team formulated a plan to pit and raise the hood for adjustments during the competition caution scheduled for lap 20. This competition caution flew and the team went to work with the adjustments including four tires and fuel making sure to stay on the lead lap. The adjustments helped the No. 1 Burnie Grill Chevrolet but now the splitter was a bit too low so on lap 28 another caution flew with the No. 23 truck spinning. The MAKE team went to work again under the hood to raise the front end and the work under the hood would be complete for the rest of the night. Kvapil then fought a tight truck but was still making moves forward. Lap 50, Travis Kvapil and his No. 1 Burnie Grill Chevrolet had broken into the top-20 and never looked back. A long green flag run put the No.1 one lap down to leader. Kvapil constantly reported that his truck was tight despite adjustment efforts in the pit. The team played their strategy and a few late cautions allowed them to get their lap back to improve on their position. On Lap 145, Kvapil reports that he has a flat tire and heads to pit road however, the caution was displayed for the accident involving the No. 11 and the catch fence. The No. 1 team didn’t pit and the race was then called official with 5 laps remaining. Travis Kvapil was able to overtake the 14th position in the last lap of the Kentucky Speedway tying the career best finish for MAKE Motorsports and Kvapil’s best finish of the season.

The No. 1 Burnie Grill Chevrolet is 23rd in NCWTS Owner Standings following the tenth race of the 2015 season.
