Tyler Young finished 22nd in Atlanta Debut

The NASCAR Camping World Truck Series (NCWTS) invaded the South Georgia track of Atlanta (Ga.) Motor Speedway for the first time since 2012 in Saturday’s Hyundai Construction Equipment 200. Tyler Young, driver of the No. 02 Young’s Motorsports Chevrolet Silverado, made his track debut in the 130 lap event.

Starting 21st, Young made two early stops down pit road in the races first two cautions at laps 12 and 19, respectively, to aid in a loose handling Chevrolet Silverado. Scored solidly inside the top-20, Young would lose a lap to the race leader under a long green flag run and opt to take the wave around on a lap 51 caution to get back on the lead lap. Unfortunately, the team did not get the quick caution they had hoped for and were forced to pit under green at lap 76 for four tires and fuel.

As if things couldn’t get worse for the Young’s Motorsports driver, the No. 02 machine was once again forced to come down pit road at lap 108, for an unscheduled stop, to top his Randco Industries/Young’s Building Systems machine off with fuel, due to an issues getting fuel in the truck during the lap 76 pit stop. The schedule of events forced Young to go multiple laps down to the leader and eventually cross the stripe in the 22nd position, seven laps down to race winner Matt Crafton.

“Atlanta is a tough track, but it’s a lot of fun to drive. Unfortunately, we didn’t have the night we would have liked. Much like everyone else, we were just loose, and couldn’t gain track position. Then, we had some trouble getting fuel in the truck under a green flag pit stop, and ran out of gas under green. We had to come down pit road for an unscheduled stop and that caused us to go multiple laps down late in the race. It’s unfortunate, but I’m looking forward to Martinsville in a few weeks.”
