Bowyer Causes “Big One” on Talladega Chairman Grant Lynch

Two-time Talladega Superspeedway NASCAR Sprint Cup Series winner Clint Bowyer stopped by Jim N Nick’s Barbecue in Birmingham today to spend some time with the media and talk racing at Talladega.  But before anyone had a chance to eat, Bowyer donned an apron to serve as a waiter and take Talladega Superspeedway Chairman Grant Lynch’s order.

When Bowyer, who was holding a plate of food for another customer, reached for his notepad to write down Grant’s order, the plate of BBQ and all the trimmings spilled on Grant’s lap.  Clint remarked, “Oops!  Sorry, I guess you have just experienced the BIG ONE, Grant….hmmmm, a little like racing at Talladega!”

After everyone settled down and the BIG mess was cleaned up, Bowyer talked about how he loves racing at NASCAR’s most unpredictable and most competitive track.

“I can’t wait to get back here in a few weeks (for the Aaron’s 499 on May 5),” said Clint, who was runner up in the 2013 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series title chase.  “I love racing here because there is nothing else like it in our sport.  It’s the biggest, the highest banked and the widest.  There is nothing like running four wide at nearly 200 mph.

“Everyone talks about the ‘Big One’ at Talladega, but you have to put yourself in position to win and not in a position to get wrecked.  For most of the Talladega races, and especially at the end of each, you have a short window of opportunity. It’s an intense situation.  You have to anticipate what could happen.  I plan to be near the front in the final laps come May 5 at ‘Dega.  Then I will figure out my move.”
