Quaker State Technology Helps Jimmie Johnson Win Second Career Daytona 500

The Quaker State race oil under the hood of the No. 48 Lowe’s Chevrolet helped Jimmie Johnson earn his first victory of the 2013 NASCAR Sprint Cup season. By taking the checkered flag at the 55th Daytona 500, Johnson has captured his second career victory at ‘The Great American Race’ and 61st career win in his 400thCup start. The win was the seventh Daytona 500 crown for team owner Rick Hendrick and Hendrick Motorsports.

“Taking the checkered flag at this year’s Daytona 500 demonstrates what a great group of people we have at Hendrick Motorsports and what this organization is capable of,” says Jeff Andrews, director of engine operations for Hendrick Motorsports.  “With Quaker State motor oil technology under the hood, we can do our absolute best, and knowing the motor oil will hold up in the most stressful conditions allows us to push the motor oil as far as we can.”

The Quaker State-Hendrick Motorsports relationship has grown over the years into a championship-winning technical team, which has helped Johnson start 2013 with tremendous confidence as he eyes his sixth NASCAR Sprint Cup Series title.  Quaker State engineers work diligently with Hendrick Motorsports throughout the season to analyze and adjust the motor oil formulations provided in order to maximize on-track success.

Quaker State has enjoyed an unprecedented level of success under the hood of the Hendrick Motorsports’ race cars. With 17 years and more than 7 million on track miles, the technical relationship with Hendrick Motorsports has resulted in an unparalleled number of racing triumphs, including 210 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series wins and 10 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series championships.

“The No. 48 crew never ceases to amaze us, and the entire Quaker State team is honored to be a part of another momentous victory,” said Gita Gidwani, Quaker State Global Brand Manager. “All of us at Quaker State would like to congratulate Jimmie Johnson and everyone who was a part of the No. 48 car’s success in capturing Jimmie’s second career victory at the Daytona 500.”
