NSCS: Harvick Captures Hollywood Casino 400 Pole

Kevin Harvick captured the pole for Sunday’s Hollywood Casino 400 after smashing the previous track record that was set back in May. Harvick posted a fast time of 27.508 seconds, 197.621 mph. Today’s pole gave Harvick his eighth of the season and hopes to back it up with his third win of the year.

Starting from the second starting spot will be Brian Vickers after turning a fast lap of 27.508 seconds, 196.307 mph. Vickers will roll from the top-10 for the ninth time of the 2014 racing season. He goes into the race with three top-five and eight top-10 finishes through 29 races.

Aric Almirola will begin the Hollywood Casino 400 from the third starting spot. Almirola turned a lap of 27.530 seconds, 196.150 mph. This weekend will mark the fifth time that the 30-year-old will start an event from the top-10 through 30 qualifying attempts.

There was only one on-track accident that involved Jimmie Johnson in the first of three rounds of qualifying. Johnson spun off the exit of turn two while turning his second lap of the session. He will start the race at the Kansas Speedway from the 32nd starting position after taking his Lowe’s No. 48 Chevrolet to the garage.
