Earlier this year, Nationwide reached a deal with Hendrick Motorsports to become the primary sponsor of the No. 88 team driven by Dale Earnhardt Jr. for a majority of races in the 2015 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series season.
The insurance company increased its primary sponsorship to 21 races, including the Daytona 500, for each of the next three seasons.
This week, Nationwide and HMS revised the deal increasing the number of primary races it will sponsor the No. 88 by nine in 2015 and eight races in 2016 and 2017.
Earlier this year, National Guard said it would be discontinuing its sponsorship of Earnhardt, but they never said when that would be. National Guard is under contract with HMS as a sponsor through the 2015 season.
The Nationwide extension might mean the insurance giant is taking over National Guard sponsorship races.
