Whitt finishes 32nd in Indianapolis

Cole Whitt and the No. 26 Speed Stick GEAR Toyota Camry team finished 32nd at Indianapolis Motor Speedway on Sunday afternoon.  After fighting the balance of their car throughout most of the afternoon, Whitt held on to bring home a solid 32nd-place finish.

Making his first start in the iconic Brickyard 400, Whitt rolled off 39th on Sunday afternoon.  The driver set a steady pace to complete the early laps while gaining track position.  Working through a handling condition that had his car loose on entry and exit while tight through the center, Whitt’s BK Racing team made a variety of chassis and air pressure adjustments throughout the early stages of the race.

Making progress with each stop, Whitt’s car improved on the short run, however the condition slowly reappeared as long green flag runs progressed.  Whitt, however, was able to power through with his Speed Stick GEAR Toyota Camry, and continued to gain positions on the track.  By the time the checkered flag waved, Whitt was scored in the 32nd position.

“Our Speed Stick GEAR Toyota Camry team worked really hard today,” commented Whitt.  “Our car wasn’t handling as we had hoped early in the race, but everyone just stuck with it trying to make it better.  We improved with every pit stop, and we were able to steadily pick up positions on the track.  It wasn’t exactly the day we hoped to have, but the guys did a great job making the most of the situation.  Like everyone at BK Racing, I’m looking forward to revisiting some tracks that we raced at earlier this year like Pocono and Michigan.  We will go back with the same group in place from BK Racing, so it will be a good opportunity to see where we’re at and identify areas that we’ve improved in over the summer, as well as identify areas that we need to continue to work on.”
