No. 66 Let’s Go Places Toyota Camry driver Brett Moffitt will make his second career start on Sunday when the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series races at Michigan International Speedway.
The 21-year-old Grimes, Iowa native made his Sprint Cup debut at Dover on June 1 finishing 22nd.
Moffitt, Jeff Burton and Michael Waltrip will drive the No. 66 for Michael Waltrip Racing in a limited number of races in 2014. A partnership between MWR and Jay Robinson Racing will allow the No. 66 to compete in all NASCAR Sprint Cup races with Joe Nemechek as the primary driver.

What is it like to get the call to go Cup Racing?
“It’s kind of unbelievable. Especially in the circumstance I am under. I only have one Nationwide Series start and two Truck Series starts. Getting the call that I am going Cup racing is kind of intimating at first. Once the race weekend came upon us I was really pretty calm, surprisingly. I kind of surprised myself. I kept waiting to get worked up and it just never happened. It was obviously really good from a drivers stand point to be able to remain calm throughout the weekend. It was a dream come true. I still can’t believe it. Then MWR giving me another shot this weekend at Michigan is just awesome.”
What is the biggest challenge when driving a Sprint Cup Series car?
“Luckily the past couple of years I have been testing Cup cars for Michael Waltrip Racing so that gave me a lot of experience. I haven’t been around a lot of other cars but I have spent a lot of time in the race cars so I can at least expect what it’s going to do on its own. Racing with other cars and dealing with the aero issues is something new to me. So that was probably the biggest learning curve for me at Dover. I am sure it will probably be more extreme this weekend at Michigan with higher speeds.”
Who do you rely on for advice?
“Brian Vickers is always super helpful for me. We work a lot together during testing. Brian has always been super supportive. He always gives me a lot of information that I wouldn’t even think of to ask. He gives me a lot of detailed information that a rookie driver like me wouldn’t think of. So he has been a huge help.”
What is your approach at Michigan:
“The biggest thing is going to be talking a lot with Brian about qualifying runs on Friday. Once we figure out qualifying we will work on race trim Saturday. The biggest thing is going to be getting through Friday. Michigan is a really big track and there are many lines you can run. I am going to try and find one that is comfortable to me and hopefully it has some speed in it.”
