Truex overcomes early setbacks, finishes 31st in Dover

Ryan Truex and the No. 83 Burger King / Dr Pepper Toyota Camry team finished 31st at Dover (Del.) International Speedway on Sunday afternoon.  After suffering an engine failure during final practice, Truex fought back from starting at the rear of the field to secure a 31st-place finish.

After suffering an engine failure during final practice, Truex had to forego his qualifying position and drop to the rear of the field prior to receiving the green flag.  With limited practice time, Truex struggled with the balance of his car during the opening laps of the event.  Radioing his BK Racing crew to report a tight handling condition, the Burger King / Dr Pepper team made significant adjustments during each pit stop to improve the balance of their racecar.  After sustaining minor damage during a lap 135 accident, Truex visited pit road for repairs and further adjustments and drove to the checkered flag without further incident.  By the time the checkered flag waved, Truex was scored in the 31st position.

“We had a tough day with our Burger King / Dr Pepper Toyota team today,” commented Truex.  “Having the engine failure during final practice really limited our practice time, and added the extra challenge of getting behind on the balance of our Toyota Camry.  My team did a great job not giving up and continuing to work hard all afternoon.  I’m happy that we were able to overcome all the hurdles that were thrown our way.  I’m looking forward to getting to Pocono Raceway next weekend.  It’s a very unique track with it’s own set of characteristics and challenges; I think it will be a lot of fun.”
