NSCS: Kansas Speedway Race Preview

This weekend the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series will head to the Kansas Speedway for the fourth annual 5-hour Energy 400, benefiting Special Operations Warrior Foundation. This will be the first ever Sprint Cup Series race here under the lights since the track was completed in 2001.

Entry List:

The entry list features 44 drivers and means one car will go home following qualifying. Some of the drivers entered this weekend include, Ryan Blaney, Alex Bowman, Cole Whitt, Travis Kvapil, David Stremme, J.J. Yeley, Joe Nemechek and Dave Blaney.

Story lines:

This weekend Clint Bowyer will make his 300th Sprint Cup Series start at his home track, Kansas Speedway. Bowyer hopes to grab his first win since 2012 and would also like to become the next driver to win in their 300th start, as Denny Hamlin did that last weekend at the Talladega Superspeedway. Bowyer goes into the event with an average finish of 13.2.

Carl Edwards still looks to capture a win at his home track this weekend as he nearly did that in 2008. If Edwards wins this weekend, he’ll go into the next race looking for his 40th Sprint Cup Series win. Though, Edwards already has a win from earlier this year at Bristol, so he is already pretty much locked into the chase.

Kyle Busch goes into this weekend hoping to claim a win at Kansas after some bad luck previously here. After racing at the 1.5-mile oval thirteen times, Busch has only two top-10 finishes, and no top-fives. He comes into this weekend with an average finish of 23.3.
