Leavine Family Racing Posts Best Finish of the Season to Date at Texas Motor Speedway

Michael McDowell drove Leavine Family Racing’s No. 95 Tommy Williams Drywall (TWD) Ford Fusion to a 30th-place finish in the rain-delayed NASCAR Sprint Cup Series race at Texas Motor Speedway on Monday afternoon. For the fourth year, the No. 95 Ford Fusion sported a TWD paint scheme at the Fort Worth, Texas facility where the Glendale, Ariz., driver started 28th in the Duck Commander 500 under overcast skies. The race started under a green/yellow flag conditions for the first 10 laps, and then McDowell raced up to 23rd by Lap 50, despite battling tight-handling through the center, before the competition yellow waved. Once the race got going, he remained in the top-20 throughout the first 94 laps while making a pit stop for fuel, four tires and adjustments via a green-flag pit stop on Lap 94. A loss of track position occurred shortly after Lap 100 due to a loose wheel from the prior pit stop, resulting in another pit stop under the green flag. It cost the team a lap to the leader and positioned McDowell in the 32nd spot. Later, McDowell was able to work his way through the field from 38th position, even passing two cars at once in the corner. One hundred laps later, on Lap 220 he found himself racing for the 30th position. While making his scheduled stop on Lap 279 under green flag conditions, the Leavine Family Racing pit crew added fuel, and put on four new Goodyear tires. Afterwards, NASCAR officials informed Rogers of a pit box tire violation and enforced a “pass thru” penalty. This put McDowell another lap down to the leaders.Rogers strategized throughout the remainder of the 340-lap event to get McDowell laps back while conserving fuel in the final laps. The No. 95 team opted to pit during the last caution on Lap 334 to ensure that the hometown team could go the distance for the green-white-checkered finish. When the checkered flag waved, he had battled back to finish in 30th-place for Leavine Family Racing’s best finish of the season.

On April 26th, McDowell and the No. 95 Leavine Family Racing team will compete at the Richmond International Raceway in the Toyota Owners 400.
