Truex overcomes handling challenges to record season-best finish

Ryan Truex and the No. 83 Borla Exhaust Toyota Camry team finished in the 31st position on Sunday afternoon at Auto Club Speedway in Fontana, Calif.  Despite being challenged by their car’s handling throughout the afternoon, the team was able to fight back to record their best finish of the 2014 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series season.

Truex rolled off in the 39th position for his first Sprint Cup Series start at the two-mile Auto Club Speedway.  Immediately challenged by the handling of his Toyota Camry, Truex worked closely with his team to come up with a plan to improve the balance of their car.  Doing everything from chassis adjustments to removing spring rubbers, Truex raced as high as the 31st position by the halfway point.  Throughout the second-half of the 400-mile event, Truex primarily raced inside the top 35.  The Borla Exhaust team continued to work on their car with every opportunity they had, making various chassis and air pressure adjustments to continue to dial in the balance.  When the caution flag was displayed during the final laps of the Auto Club 400, Truex stayed on track to maintain his position and cross the finish line in the 31st position.

“Our Borla Exhaust team did a good job overcoming challenges today,” commented Truex.  “We struggled with dialing in the balance of our car, but my BK Racing team continued to work to improve the car with every pit stop.  It would’ve been easy to get frustrated and give up, but everyone kept with it and continued to put in their best effort.  It shows what a great team that BK Racing has put together.”
