James Finch has been an owner in NASCAR for over 20 years. Finch, who is known as one of the most spontaneous in NASCAR history, was on Sirius XM NASCAR Radio on Monday evening when Finch was asked by the Late Shift co-host Brad Gillie if Finch had seller’s remorse after selling his Phoenix Racing team to car owner Harry Scott last September.
Finch’s response was breaking news.
“I don’t know if there’s seller’s remorse but I got to thinking that the Daytona 500 is comin up and I probably gotta go down there one more time….so I made a deal with Harry and I’m gonna get a car out and I am gonna go to the Daytona 500.”
Finch, the former owner of Phoenix Racing, has been out of the sport since selling his organization but has had a lot of success on the restrictor plate racetracks. He won in 2009 with driver Brad Keselowski and has had some impressive results in the Daytona 500 and Finch wants to try that one more time.
“Well I was thinking about it and I’ve got a third place, a fourth place, a seventh place, a ninth place and two 12th places and I’ve won the 200 down three times, I’ve won the 250 and the 300 and I’ve won everything but the 500 and that’s always been my dream to win the Daytona 500.”
Finch failed to mention who would be the driver of his car when he enters the 56th annual Daytona 500 but did say that his entry would be guaranteed into the race. Which leads to speculation that a past champion could be in Finch’s car come February. No word on who that past champion is but speculation points to 2000 series champion Bobby Labonte, who has driven for Finch in the past and is currently without a ride for the 2014 season.
