Kvapil finishes 32nd after being challenged by changing track conditions at Texas

Travis Kvapil and the No. 93 Dr Pepper Toyota Camry team finished 32nd at Texas Motor Speedway on Sunday afternoon.

With the race forecasted to extend into the evening and track temperatures to cool, the No. 93 Dr Pepper Toyota Camry team worked throughout practice to develop a versatile setup that could be adjusted to the changing conditions.  Kvapil rolled off 38th for the AAA Texas 500.  With his teammate starting right behind him, the two immediately began charging through the field to pick up six positions in the opening 20 laps.  As the race progressed, Kvapil and his BK Racing team continued to fine-tune the handling of their car with each pit stop.  Taking bigger swings at changes as the track cooled, the leaders set a blistering pace and left many cars lapped.  With only one other car scored on their lap, the No. 93 Dr Pepper Toyota Camry team was in a difficult position where they were unable to make up much ground.  By the time the checkered flag waved, Kvapil was scored in the 32nd position.

“Our No. 93 Dr Pepper Toyota Camry was a strong racecar this weekend,” commented Kvapil.  “It was a tough race with changing track conditions.  We started out with the car a bit on the tight side, so we loosened the car during the early laps only to tighten it back up as track cooled and became loose.  By that point in the race, Jimmie Johnson was not only leading, but in a class of his own, which made regaining ground difficult.  I’m looking forward to getting back in the car next weekend.  We had a great car at Phoenix in the spring, and I’m hopeful that we’ll be able to back it up with another strong race next weekend.”
