Kvapil survives two spins and leaves Martinsville with a top-25 finish

Travis Kvapil and the No. 93 Dr Pepper Toyota Camry team finished 24th at Martinsville (Va.) Speedway on Sunday afternoon.  In a caution-filled afternoon, Kvapil sustained some front-end damage early in the race, but with hard work from his BK Racing crew the driver was able to continue in the event to finish inside the top 25.

Kvapil rolled off 32nd for the Goody’s Headache Relief Shot 500, which put him in a difficult position to gain ground while racing in the non-preferred upper groove throughout the early laps of the race.  Kvapil spun twice coming off of turn four during the first half of the race to fall to the 34th position by lap 250.  The incidents resulted in some minor body damage, which also tightened the balance of the No. 93 Dr Pepper Toyota Camry.  The BK Racing team worked diligently throughout each pit stop to loosen the balance of their car and to apply BearBond to secure the fenders of Kvapil’s machine.  Despite the challenges, Kvapil did not slow on the track.  In fact, the veteran driver continued to move through the field and expertly positioned himself to regain laps and track position.  Throughout the second half of the event and with the help of two free passes during late caution periods, Kvapil picked up an additional 10 positions before ultimately crossing the finish line in 24th.

“I’m really proud of everyone on the No. 93 Dr Pepper Toyota Camry team today,” commented Kvapil.  “The beginning of the race didn’t go the way we had hoped, but no one gave up.  After going three laps down early in the race, we were able to regain those laps and that track position.  We were able to race from deep in the field to earn a top-25 finish.  By the end of the race, we were just as fast as anyone else on old tires and I think that says a lot about the determination of our team.  We only have three races left in the 2013 race season and we’re determined to finish it out strong.”
