Leavine Family Racing Looking to Build Momentum for the Future at Martinsville Speedway

A handful of drivers will be at the fabled Martinsville Speedway this Sunday with hopes of winning a championship.

But for Reed Sorenson and Leavine Family Racing, there’s just one plan for the Goody’s Headache Relief Shot 500 – finishing the season strong.

The No. 95 Leavine Family Ford will be making its second-to-last appearance of a selected schedule this year. The team wants to carry the momentum and confidence from strong finishing races into the off-season so they can hit the ground running in 2014.

“We’ve got a great race car and Reed certainly wanted to do the race, so we picked Martinsville,” crew chief Wally Rogers said. “It’s a tough little track, but we’re up for the challenge.”

This will be Sorenson’s 12th career start at the half-mile, paperclip-shaped track. His career best finish was 12th in 2006.

“I love Martinsville,” he said. “You have to be patiently aggressive there. You have to always keep pushing, but you have to pick your spots. It’s so easy to wear out the brakes, push the engine too hard or make a lot of enemies there.

“It takes a lot of give and take to survive 500 laps at Martinsville. But in the final 100 laps, there’s a lot more taking than giving.”

Sorenson knows the importance in creating momentum at Leavine Family Racing for the future as they are building for next season. A strong finish at Martinsville is crucial in giving the team a strong footing for the future.

“We have two races to go and we’re looking at them as a preview of our strong potential in2014,” Sorenson said. “We want to go to Martinsville, run all 500 laps and take home a good finish. That will give us the adrenaline that will take us through the off-season.”
