Kvapil races to 26th-place finish at Kansas Speedway

Travis Kvapil and the No. 93 Burger King / Dr. Pepper Toyota Camry team finished 26th at Kansas Speedway on Sunday, October 6.  Kvapil raced inside the top 30 all day and even led a lap before crossing the finish line in the 26th position.

Racing at Kansas Speedway for the second time this season, competitors in the Sprint Cup Series utilized a new tire combination for the Hollywood Casino 400 that left everyone on pit road concerned about cording and tire wear on the right front tire.  Kvapil and his BK Racing team raced conservatively for the opening portion of the race until they were able to evaluate the wear on their tires.  The team also made several minor adjustments to tighten the handling of their No. 93 Burger King / Dr. Pepper Toyota Camry as clouds rolled in to cool the track surface.

Track position proved to be key throughout the day.  Kvapil moved into the top 20 several times, only to be shuffled out on a few restarts and to spin in turn two following a restart on lap 147.  Falling outside the top 30 following the spin, Kvapil regained his rhythm on the track to cross the finish line in the 26th position.

“We had a good racecar today with the No. 93 Burger King / Dr. Pepper Toyota Camry,” commented Kvapil.  “Going into the race this afternoon, we didn’t know exactly what to expect with tire wear, so we were a bit conservative during the opening laps of the race.  Once we realized that our tire wear would be okay, we were able to race harder and pick up positions.  Our car was a little loose entering turn one, but we were really strong in turns three and four.  We didn’t have quite the track position we hoped for at the end of the race, but I’m still proud of our 26th-place finish.  We’re looking forward to getting back on the track next weekend at Charlotte Motor Speedway.”
