Roush Fenway Racing Hits One Million+ on Google+

Roush Fenway Racing’s (RFR) award-winning official Google+ page (https://plus.google.com/+RoushFenwayRacing) passed the one million milestone last week. A pioneer for sports teams on the robust social channel, RFR received its one millionth “plus” on Thursday.

“The unrivaled accessibility of our drivers and teams is one of the reasons NASCAR is such an incredibly popular sport,” said Roush Fenway Racing president Steve Newmark. “Topping one million fans on Google+ shows how loyal our fans really are, and I’m proud our team is the first to hit that mark. We believe that digital channels like Google+ that connect us directly to NASCAR’s millions of followers provide an extremely powerful platform to better serve both our race fans and our partners – and we will continue to focus on growing these channels.”

RFR launched its Google+ page at the start of the 2012 season, giving race fans unprecedented access to interact with their favorite drivers during a ‘Five Driver Hangout’ live from Daytona International Speedway. The organization became the first motorsports team to build a significant footprint in the Google+ space and the first team to exceed one million fans in its combined circles (including the team’s official page and the official pages for the team’s drivers).

RFR’s numbers grew at a record rate, and the team was awarded the prestigious PR News Social Media Icon Award for best use of the platform, noting a successful approach that “took chances, made incredible strides and understands the power of social media in public relations.”

In 2013 USA Today recognized RFR as having the ‘broadest reach’ in NASCAR, built much on the strength of its presence on Google+. Highlights for RFR in 2013 on Google+ include increased fan interaction, the weekly Google+ hangout series “Fetters at Five”, the RFR driver/actor hangout at the “Star Trek: Into Darkness” movie premiere (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RuMOLxirGZw), the driver/team Spring Fan day hangout, live pre-race hangouts from tracks and weekly behind the scenes fan access, official infographics and event previews.

A leader in NASCAR marketing solutions, Roush Fenway  brought home MarCom awards the past two years for its award-winning campaigns RickyVsTrevor.com and “25 Winning Years.”
