Kvapil races to a 28th-place finish in New Hampshire

Travis Kvapil and the No. 93 Dr. Pepper Toyota Camry team finished 28th at New Hampshire Motor Speedway on Sunday, September 22.  After qualifying inside the top 30, Kvapil overcame early contact that damaged his right front fender and slowed the aerodynamics of his No. 93 machine.

Racing in New Hampshire’s lake region, Kvapil rolled off 30th for the SYLVANIA 300 at the track known as the “Magic Mile.”  With the balance of his car hooked up during the opening laps, Kvapil set a solid pace and began racing through the field.  After moving in to the top 25, Kvapil had to overcome a setback when the No. 47 car got loose in front of him and made contact with Kvapil’s silver No. 93 Dr. Pepper Toyota.  The contact damaged the aerodynamics of Kvapil’s car and left him fighting a tight handling condition throughout the remainder of the afternoon.

The Dr. Pepper crew used each pit stop as an opportunity to improve their racecar and worked through a variety of chassis adjustments to help the balance of their car.  Despite continuing to run lap times in the top 15, Kvapil struggled to get the track position the team needed to improve their placement on the scoring chart.  By the time the checkered flag waved, Kvapil was scored in the 28th position.

“Our No. 93 Dr. Pepper Toyota Camry was a good race car this weekend,” commented Kvapil.  “We made minor adjustments during practice to help get us better, and it seemed like we would be in good shape for the race.  Starting in the 30th position clearly leaves you with several cars to pass, and unfortunately while I was in the process of doing that another competitor got loose and made contact with my right front fender.  The guys worked hard to repair the damage, but despite anything we tried, it left us with a tight racecar the rest of the afternoon.  While we had competitive lap times, we just couldn’t get the track position we needed to continue moving forward.  I’m excited to get back in the car next weekend at Dover International Speedway; hopefully our No. 93 Dr. Pepper Toyota Camry will prove to be fast at that short track, too.”
