Fellows Ready to Roll at Watkins Glen

Ron Fellows will once again be behind the wheel of the No. 33 Canadian Tire Chevrolet SS for the Sprint Cup Series’ Cheez-It 355 at Watkins Glen International this weekend. Fellows, who qualified 25th and finished 22nd earlier this season at the road course in Sonoma, returns to Watkins Glen following a successful two-day test last week with the Circle Sport Racing team.  In his 14 previous NASCAR Sprint Cup Series starts at The Glen, Fellows has two runner-up finishes, but has captured victories at the 2.45-mile road course in Nationwide and Truck Series competition.

“I always look forward to racing at Watkins Glen,” said Fellows.  “It’s a really fast road course and great fun to drive. And our test at Watkins Glen went well. It’s a real bonus to get to test, particularly for me when I’m not driving nearly as much. I’m grateful for the opportunity with Circle Sport Racing and appreciate the effort that the team and also Richard Childress Racing have put together for me and for Canadian Tire.”

An accomplished road-course driver that has experienced success in every discipline of racing, Fellows has wins in the 24-hour classics at Le Mans and Daytona, NASCAR Truck and Nationwide stock car competition, and three championships in the American Le Mans Series.  Fellows, who lives in the Toronto area and will be inducted into the Canadian Motorsport Hall of Fame in September, has six NASCAR victories to his credit in NASCAR Nationwide and Camping World Truck Series competition.

“Besides Ron’s expertise behind the wheel at a road course, having a company like Canadian Tire join our sponsorship lineup solidifies our attempt to provide Ron with the resources to capture his first Sprint Cup Series victory,” said Circle Sport team owner Joe Falk.  “The first road-course event at Sonoma was important to build the communication between Ron and the team and we expect better things at Watkins Glen.  We spent two days testing there following The Brickyard and Ron knows The Glen probably better than any of the other 42 drivers that will be in the field.  Having the support of GM Racing and RCR (Richard Childress Racing) makes this a fully-supported effort to win.”

“Canadian Tire is again proud to support Ron Fellows, a valued partner of ours, and to be part of this exciting opportunity with Circle Sport and RCR,” said Landon French, Vice President, Sport Partnerships, Canadian Tire. “As a longtime supporter of racing in Canada we look forward to cheering Ron on in his #33 Canadian Tire Chevy. We wish him the best of luck this weekend as he carries the Canadian flag to a Sprint Cup Series victory!”
