Earnhardt still seeking sponsorship

Dale Earnhardt Jr. has yet to announce a new sponsor, and it remains unclear whether he will have a sponsor for all the NASCAR races this year.

Hendrick Motorsports continues to try to get sponsorship for Earnhardt’s car, and team owner Rick Hendrick has indicated that it is close to obtaining a sponsor, The Sporting News reported.

Earnhardt does not seem concerned.

“We have had a lot of good conversations with a few potential partners about what we can do in 2014 and beyond,” Earnhardt told reporters Friday at Indianapolis Motor Speedway. “Anybody who has got any sense about how the corporate world works knows that it’s too late into the season, too late in the year to expect to put together a package for the rest of the season that is going to turn into a multiyear deal. It’s just all the dollars and cents are accounted for at this point in the year.”

Hendrick has a problem because it doesn’t want to decrease the value of the sponsorship, according to The Sporting News report. National Guard has budgeted $29.96 million this year to sponsor the car.

Plus, Earnhardt must find a sponsor that does not conflict with others in the organization.

“(The economics of it) doesn’t mean we can’t put some things together and do some creative stuff with some people and some partners that we already have,” Earnhardt said. “I don’t think it should be a cause for concern.

“It is important to try to fill out what we have this season, and we will. I don’t have any doubt at all that we will get that done.

“I think we almost have to look forward beyond that to try to find out who is going to be the partner that we can put a long-term deal together that matches up with what we want to do in the future.”

Earnhardt also has concerns on the racetrack. He is fifth in the Cup standings heading into Sunday’s Brickyard 400. That puts him in position to be part of the Chase for the Sprint Cup, but he has gone 38 consecutive races without a victory
