Leavine Family Racing Proud to Make Their Own History at Indianapolis Motor Speedway

Scott Speed has been on some of worldwide racing’s grandest stages, including the high banks of the Daytona International Speedway, the street course at Monte Carlo, the mammoth Bristol Motor Speedway, the picturesque Watkins Glen International, the iconic Silverstone Circuit and the festive race course in San Paulo, Brazil.

While all of these great courses, tracks, ovals, and parks brought Speed milestone memories, the Indianapolis Motor Speedway always brings on the biggest impression. Even when many of those races have occurred just in the past few months, nothing has compared to the Indianapolis Motor Speedway.

“You don’t only see the history there, you feel it,” Speed said.

Speed and Leavine Family Racing will be making another trip to the famous 2.5-mile oval for Sunday’s Crown Royal Presents the Samuel Deeds 400 at The Brickyard Powered by BigMachineRecords.com. Like the thousands of racers before them, they hope to carve their names into the tradition-rich history at the most famous racetrack in the world.

Speed will drive a patriotic No. 95 Ford Fusion. The American Flag will adorn the front hood as the young team makes their second start at the historic speedway.

“There are three races where you not only have a chance to win, but you have a chance to join history,” crew chief Wally Rogers said. “Everyone in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series wants to win at Daytona, at the Charlotte Motor Speedway because it’s the home track for just about every team, and, of course, at Indianapolis. You put a lot of work into Daytona and you put a lot of pride into Charlotte.

“But for Indianapolis, absolutely everyone puts all their emotion into the race. It’s an honor just to be on the grounds.”

Speed has been at his best in the big races. He had a pair of lead-lap finishes at Daytona in both events this season as well as at the Talladega Superspeedway, where he placed a Leavine Family Racing-best ninth-place finish in May.

Leavine Family Racing has made selected starts this year with an emphasis on the year’s premier events. Few are any bigger than Sunday’s race.

Speed, who ranks sixth in points in the Global Rallycross standings following last Saturday’s race at the Bristol Motor Speedway, is glad to be back in a NASCAR Sprint Cup Series car. He’s even happier to be at racing’s most-revered racetrack.

“We soak up the atmosphere and appreciate all the other drivers who’ve been here before us when we get to the track,” Speed said. “Our focus will be to make Leavine Family Racing part of Indy’s storied history. The only way to do that is to win on the biggest stage of all.”
