David Reutimann and the No. 83 Burger King / Dr. Pepper Toyota Camry finished 28th at New Hampshire Motor Speedway on Sunday afternoon. The driver overcame alternator issues early in the race to come home with a top-30 finish in Sunday’s Camping World RV Sales 301 at the one-mile oval.
The NASCAR Sprint Cup Series made its first of two annual stops at the northeast speedway, and immediately got to work with three practice sessions to prepare for Sunday’s 301-lap event. After turning nearly 100 practice laps, Reutimann picked up seven-tenths of a second from practice to qualifying to secure the 27th starting position.
Within 30 laps of the green-flag waving, Reutimann had already picked up five spots to be racing just outside the top 20. On a tight track without much room to pass, Reutimann was involved in a slight fender bender around lap 25. The driver was able to continue, but the No. 83 Burger King / Dr. Pepper Toyota Camry developed a tight handling condition and fell outside the top 30, as a result of the damage. The BK Racing crew utilized pit stops to work on the damage and make adjustments. As the race continued, Reutimann’s car also continued to get better and better. Reutimann raced back inside the top 30, climbing as high as the 28th position by the time the checkered flag waved.
“I’m proud of the effort by our No. 83 Burger King / Dr. Pepper Toyota Camry team today,” commented Reutimann. “We had a little problem with our alternator after the start and got caught in a fender bender early in the race, but our BK Racing team kept with it. We were able to make adjustments throughout the race, and continued to pick up positions one by one. It will be nice for everyone to have a week off next weekend to catch their breath before we get into another stretch all the way to Miami. Our BK Racing team has been putting in long days to make sure that we’re ready to go to the track every week, so I’m really looking forward to seeing what they put together for me at Indianapolis Motor Speedway in just two weeks.”
Competitors in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series will enjoy their “summer vacation” next week with a rare off-weekend from NASCAR competition. The following week, they will return to the famed Indianapolis Motor Speedway for the 20th Running of the Brickyard 400 on Sunday, July 28.
